Exceptionally Gifted Athletes Who Rock at Other Sports
Even with the currency, fame, and glory that come hereafter, the special players on the block will rise up and enrapture the hearts of many. Talent has given them wings. Nonetheless, the problem with too much talent?
Well, you can never be just one thing. The gifted ones always stretch and advance into success beyond their natural domain — being great on one playing field just won't cut it. These are the 19 sports extraordinaire who refuse to limit their base and utilize their God-given talent to play something else.
Tim Tebow
College player Tim Tebow led the Florida Gators to two National Championships and won the prestigious Heisman trophy as an underclassman. Then, as a first-round draft pick by the Broncos, he helped revitalize the team to score their first division and playoff victories in six years. Yet, despite his success, his constant fumbles on the field soon pushed him into a trade for Peyton Manning. So, after a stream of throwdowns for the goalposts, "Shiny Tim" switched his kit for a baseball uniform.
Tim went on to sign a minor league deal with the New York Mets in 2016. His batting journey lasted for four seasons then he pulled a stretch with the Jacksonville Jaguars for his last football hurrah.
Deion Sanders
Sure, many well-known athletes played multiple sports throughout their careers, but have these other professionals played them simultaneously? Or even get to the mainstream stage to capture it all? Deion Sanders was that unique player, for he suited up to win it big at the Super Bowl and the World Series.
Sanders doesn't know off-season because between 1989 and 2001, he double-played football and baseball alternately and even tried to do both on the same day. His on-field success includes Super Bowl titles with the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys while making triple plays in Baseball National League with 14. Not wanting to leave the game entirely, Sander still plays as head coach for the Jackson State Tigers.
