Sports celebs are some of the most successful, highest-grossing, and lavish-living celebrities on the planet today. We see them in the world of football, basketball, race, chess, etc. Every new contract they sign is an added stream of income that multiplies their great wealth.

Sadly, not all of them are as successful in their love lives as they are in their sports careers. This group of celebs has had their hearts broken countless times in their search for true love. A few among them have also thrown in the towel, believing that lasting romance is not for them. Here's a list of famous athletes who've experienced the most expensive divorce:

Michael & Juanita Jordan

Michael Jordan's separation from his wife, Juanita Jordan, took a huge toll on his finances. The Chicago Bulls All-Star met his wife in 1985 and their union was blessed with three gorgeous children. Things, however, started going downhill when Michael began having a secret affair and even paying his lover $250k to keep mum.

Yet, that couldn't keep his marriage from falling apart. Juanita separated from Michael and was compensated heavily to the tune of $168 million. Added to that, the former loved insisted on getting $5 million as settlement. The amount would have been more than that had a court not insisted on the said amount.

Joe DiMaggio & Marilyn Monroe

In 1952, baseball legend, Joe DiMaggio, hooked up with superscreen icon, Marilyn Monroe in what appeared to be a whirlwind romance. The duo tied the knot two years later on January 1954, but their fiery romance wasn't to last.

DiMaggio began unraveling a part of him that had hitherto been hidden from Monroe. He became excessively controlling and physically abused his wife on some occasions. This led to a bitter divorce with the couple sharing their wealth apart. Sadly, the separation seemed to affect Joe the most as he thereafter stopped drinking and went to therapy. Even after his ex-wife passed on, he continued to send flowers to her grave every week for about twenty years.

Tiger Woods & Elin Nordegren

Tiger Woods met Elin Nordegren at The Open Championship in 2001. She was a former Swedish model and both of them looked like the perfect couple. Things happened very quickly as the duo got engaged in 2003, married in 2004, and welcomed their first child in 2007.

Yet, for whatever reasons, it seemed that Woods wanted something more. He got involved in extramarital affairs and tried his best to cover it up, spending about $750 million in the process. Finally, in 2010, Woods and his wife ended their six-year marriage. Elin received about $100 million in settlement and was also entitled to $20k monthly for child support.
